Homeless in Aarhus
Guldmann 2022 donations
Denmark
Homeless in Aarhus is a 100% volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting homeless and socially disadvantaged individuals in the city. At the heart of the initiative is Rikke Sejthen, whose mission is to make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.
Guldmann’s donation was earmarked for Det Rullende Hjerterum, which roughly translates to "Hearts on Wheels. It is a food truck operated entirely by volunteers. The truck is designed to serve the homeless when local shelters are closed. Rikke hopes it will soon be able to drive out daily to the areas of Aarhus where the city’s most vulnerable tend to gather.
The goal is more than just offering a warm meal. When the food truck appears, Rikke wants it to be a symbol, a sign that someone is there not just to feed them, but to listen, to talk, and to show they care. Over the past eight years of working closely with people living on the streets, Rikke has come to understand just how much a simple conversation can mean.
She believes deeply in treating people with dignity and kindness, making sure that when the food truck arrives, they feel seen, heard, and, in her words, "spoiled" whenever possible, all year round.
As Rikke puts it:
"We must remember that people are homeless all year round. It's not only in winter, when it's cold, that they need our care. They need just as much support when the sun is shining as when the snow is falling. Whether it's a café latte, a pair of warm gloves, freshly baked buns, a birthday song, or a hot meal, there's something for everyone."
This past weekend marked the official launch of Det Rullende Hjerterum. It was celebrated with a heartfelt gathering of volunteers, sponsors, and members of the homeless community, all coming together to mark the realization of a long-held dream.
